This was a painting that I felt needed to be done, like this wee dog many of our pets that have become another family member have passed, I use to wonder where they went and who took them away, well now I feel that I have had the answer; and hopefully you too will feel good inside to know they are taken care of in such a positive way. I can’t help but feel the loss of those wee animals that we have around us, and have wondered at times where they went or if anyone came to get them. Now I know, my questions certainly have been answered in my painting of Loving. I really had hoped to have captured the true spirit of loving an animal so much, when it passed, that it would be carried to another realm and be set free to be that happy pet once again. All done by Spirit. Something that I believe and know. How wonderful for us to see this and to realize even our animals are taken care of. This of course is my own beliefs. I would just like you to view this painting with an openness of the “maybe so” thought, and leave it at that. The original painting is done on high quality rag finish board using pyrography, watercolours, and pastels. This is a painting that my Spirit Guide Eaglewoman, wished me to do and of course I needed this even for myself. I started to work on the painting early one morning and didn’t really know where it was going never mind knowing at the time who it was. I soon was told and knew this was for my sister to have, as she needed to see for herself what her Spirit Guide looked like. The Eagle in the painting also represents part of me as well as the Dragonfly, Lois and I share in Dragonfly teachings. I am but the messenger for this painting, to give to Lois, later it shall be passed to her son Bruce. A gift of Love.. Eaglewing
This painting is very important to me as the artist: like most of my painting I put so much of myself into what I do.. I painted this shortly after the conflict that was occurring with two neighboring communities . Caledonia and Six Nations Reserve two communities that had been together in sports, other community events, growing up knowing each other as friends through the years and their children coming together with most school activities. Now there is a split in the both communities, with angry words coming from each side, due to land claims. When I saw and heard this first on the television news and then the radio, my heart broke with what was happening with the people: the anger scares me, as I know this doesn’t solve anything, only makes things worse in the long run of things.. The painting is my vision of what I saw when this conflict was going on. My heart was sick with worry of not wanting to see anyone getting hurt. What I did see is what I have painted, The Medicine Wheel was starting to split, but with the help of the Owl and Spirit pulling together, for the healing of the Medicine Wheel and hopefully bringing a split community back together again. I have used a mixed medium doing this piece of art, which is on a high quality illustration board using phyrography, watercolors, acrylics, and pastels. A painting of love for the gentleness of this beautiful animal, so keen with trying to keep the love and gentle spirit within all of us. To guide us with goodness for others, to give respect to those that are wounded from the cruelty that have over powered them, to help with the healing of these wounds with the gentle spirit Fawn shows. The guiding Spirit with Fawn gives way to the ways of gentleness and love for all peoples and the creatures of the woods. Take heed when going through life’s road of ones own ability to be like Fawn. How could I not do this painting, as Eagle is always with me, but to see Spirit with a woman of green eyes was something that I hadn’t counted on when I was preparing to paint the image that I saw. I just knew that she had green eyes, most importantly I saw the love that she has for the greatest of all, one that is closest to Creator and is connected with the realm of the earth. The Spirit of Green Eyes also a connection with the love to each other, to care and guide both to taking care of you, me , all of us if we let our heart soar like the Eagle, to yet heighten our spiritual realm of our lives on earth. This painting is also a reminder of a young native woman I had met with the same green eyes, I could not help but look deep into them, and knew that I saw great kindness and love for Eagle. This was a reminder to me of that moment in time passing. Spirit does amazing things for me, to see and know in time to do yet another painting. Eaglewing
This painting I had to do, why I am not to sure but just the fact that it had to be painted, I didn’t really want to do it as Turtle has never been my sort of thing, but apparently it is according to Spirit. The title came to me as I was painting and placing Mother Earth’s hair in the mouth of the turtle, she of course is nurturing our oldest symbol of the earth. The eternal Mother is our symbol of what we have evolved from with her nurturing for all of us. I hope that this is symbolic in my painting. Eaglewing.
This is a painting that I thoroughly enjoyed doing, it just came to me as Spirit does, and had to be done. The wolf is a teacher, of wisdom and a pathfinder that comes back to the pack, to teach the younger ones. I feel that I have been helped in doing this painting as I have come back to my roots of a Mohawk woman, needing to learn more as I go on with my own life’s path. To help those that need guidance as this guide is doing with the wolf. A simple explanation of this painting and I hope it will satisfy any that need to know about “Wolf’s Guide”. I have again used a mixed medium doing Wolf’s Guide, with pyrography, watercolours, and pastels Eaglewing.
This painting was a sense of wonder to me as I wasn’t really sure of where Spirit was taking me as I was painting and had no idea what it should be called, for that matter I didn’t know until I was in the shop ordering the brass label to be scrolled out for the finished work. A beautiful strong looking bear with wisdom of kindness in it’s face , the silence of it’s surroundings when entering into it’s cave, nurturing his needs. Like Bear, we need the silence to carry on with our own life’s path when we awaken from our dreams to carry them out. Our Spirit guides are with all of us as you see in this painting to help and guide us through our life to do well and feel the strength of BEAR. On an evening, while smudging, before retiring for the night. A young woman’s face came to me. I knew this Spirit was holding out something in her hands, but did not at the time see what it was. The next morning, I sat at my work table and started another painting , I really didn’t know why the feeling was so strong, or for that matter what it was going to be, but soon that face was emerging in front of me, like the night before ,and there she was again, by my hand this time , Spirit. It was then when I realized that this Spirit was giving a gift of Strawberries, if to me or to whom ever , this is a painting that came first in my vision and then again on paper. She needed to be known. This is a painting that pleases me to know that Spirit gives us our need to know, of those that come and have now gone for whatever reason. In Spirit they are gifting all of us, in some way. Look at this Spirit of Strawberries, by doing this , I hope you will open your Mind, Heart and Soul, maybe it will help you in ways you will not understand at first glance, but will feel a sense of wonder. The Dragonfly is seen in many of my paintings with Spirit, it also is blessing you, feeding you and filling all your needs. This is something that our people have been doing for years past and present, food for their families, a way of everyday life for all of them. Like hunting, always just taking what is needed, substance of survival. It was a good life, a life of course with its endurance to keep us strong to go on with what ever those hardships were. Our families mean much to us and to those that were around us, we shared in our foods and offered our catch to those that were in need. Like this Spirit in Offering, I hope it also gives the viewer the knowledge of how I felt when painting this piece. We are a caring people that have always offered what we have with others. I hope I have shared with you, that look upon this painting and see what offering is about. One of importance for us to remember how it use to be a long time ago, with our Native fishermen, and this simple gesture. Eaglewing |
